Sea kayaks on a beach

About

Castle Craigs Canoe Club is North Ayrshire’s longest running sea kayaking club. The club has been running for over 40 years, bringing people of all ages and abilities into sea kayaking.

Members can enjoy friendly paddling all-year-round with Winter and Summer sessions.

Winter pool sessions take place at Auchenharvie Leisure Centre from October to March from 7-9pm.

Summer sessions take place from Largs Sailing Club from April to September from 7-9pm.

During the winter the pool sessions are used to improve kayaking skills and introduce newer paddlers to basic skills training prior to going on the sea. Summer sessions usually involve coaching sessions for newer paddlers closer to shore with one or more groups exploring the beautiful coastline.

The club has an extensive range of equipment: everything you need to begin kayaking. We have a variety of boats for the sea, river and pool, as well as related kit such as paddles, spray decks and buoyancy aids. These are available to members for pool and sea sessions as well as club trips.

Castle Craigs is a properly constituted organisation run by a committee and affiliated to the Scottish Canoe Association.

The club primarily consists of adults and juniors (over 14).

However, we also try to find a balance by encouraging younger children to participate in kayaking, ensuring safety is maintained. Younger children can attend the pool session in the winter season and will be given training, although the club requires parents to be present in the pool at the same time and be responsible for the children.

Unfortunately, the Club does not take unaccompanied children under 14 onto the sea.
