Sea kayaks on a beach

Welcome to Castle Craigs Canoe Club, North Ayrshire’s longest running sea kayaking club. The club has been running for over 30 years, bringing people of all ages and abilities into sea kayaking.

The club organised activities in the winter season (Sept-May) primarily takes place at Auchenharvie Swimming Pool in Stevenston (Thursdays, 8pm - 10pm). While in the summer season (May-Sept), the club operates out of Largs Sailing Club, at Largs Yacht Haven (Tuesdays, 6.30pm - 9.30pm). During the winter the pool sessions are used to improve kayaking skills, and put novices through basic skills training prior to going on the sea, while in the summer further sea kayaking skills are pursued with much longer trips being organised.

The club is a properly constituted organisation run by a committee and affiliated to the Scottish Canoe Association.

The club primarily consists of adults and juniors (over 14). However, we also try to find a balance by encouraging younger children to participate in kayaking, ensuring safety is maintained. Younger children can attend the pool session in the winter season and will be given training, although the club requires parents to be present in the pool at the same time and be responsible for the children.

Unfortunately, the Club does not take unaccompanied children under 14 onto the sea.

The club has an extensive range of equipment: everything you need to begin kayaking. We have a variety of boats for the sea, river and pool, as well as related kit such as paddles, spray decks and buoyancy aids. These are available to members for training, club trips and personal hire (subject to appropriate experience).
